Managing anxiety
About me and my approach to counselling
Hello! My name is Sarah. I am an experienced person-centred counsellor helping adults 18+ to have the confidence to live life fully, exploring your potential and honouring who you are. My passion is to support people who want to develop an improved relationship with their Self, helping you on your journey towards greater self-awareness and self-acceptance.

Person centred counselling places the client at the heart of the process. I believe everyone possesses the inner strength to create positive change in their lives. My role as counsellor is to listen and hold a non-judgemental, compassionate and confidential space in which you feel safe enough to tell your story.

Clients come to counselling because they want something to change in their lives. It means you have to start doing something differently or thinking differently and you might need help with this. All change, whether positive and desired or forced on us, can disrupt our sense of safety, identity and predictability. It can lead to emotional discomfort or a sense of loss; my role is to help you make sense of this changing landscape of your inner world.

Reaching out for support is the first step towards making the changes you want. You may come to counselling at the point of crisis or because you want help to deal with everyday stresses and worries. Whatever the reason, I am here to support you on your journey to creating the life you want.

Areas of support
Bereavement support
Losing someone you love can turn the world upside down and even the strongest hearts can feel heavy, confused, or lost. At a time when everything feels different, having someone to talk to can make all the difference. You deserve space to be heard, understood, and supported.

Sometimes grief can be complicated or unresolved and you may need support to unravel this. You may be mourning what was, or what wasn’t. No matter what your relationship looked like, your experience is valid. There is no ‘right’ way to grieve or timetable for grief, everyone moves through loss in their own rhythm. I offer compassionate and gentle support long after the funeral flowers have faded.

Other significant endings
Although we usually associate grief with the death of a loved one, there are other endings and life transitions that can evoke a sense of profound loss. This may include:
-
Relationship break-up
-
Divorce
-
Redundancy
-
Career change
-
Moving home
-
Loss of hope or dreams
-
Ill-health
-
Retirement
-
Worries about getting older
Whether by choice or not, such events force us into a changed personal world and a new identity. They often uncover hurt, disappointment, anger and can lead to enhanced anxiety about the future.

Managing anxiety
Anxiety is the body's natural internal alarm system. Instead of trying to pushing anxiety away, how would it be to lean into it? How would it be to give yourself time to notice how it manifests and feels, and staying present with it long enough to understand what it’s trying to tell you? You can build a new relationship with your anxiety, one where you’re not controlled by it.

Anxiety often rises when something is shifting. The ‘what if’s’ can surface …. What if this goes wrong? What if I can’t handle it? We can step into overthinking, catastrophising or doubting ourselves. A process of adjustment to new possibilities takes place when the unfamiliar starts to feel familiar, confidence increases, the nervous system recalibrates and it starts to feel safer.

Whether you’re dealing with a recent bereavement or carrying the weight of loss from long ago, reaching out for help is a sign of strength, not weakness. When goodbye feels overwhelming, remember you don’t have to face it alone.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who is counselling for?
Anyone experiencing emotional, social, work-related or mental health challenges can benefit. You don’t need to be in crisis to seek counselling; people can also use it as a form of self-care or personal development.
How many appointments will I need?
This will depend on what issue(s) you are bringing to counselling. Everyone’s journey is so different, with some noticing very quick changes in their lives. I usually suggest 6 sessions on a weekly basis but this is flexible and built around your individual needs. I have worked with some clients for only a few sessions, some between 6-9 months, some longer. There are regular reviews and you are in control of when you want to stop therapy. I would ask that we allocate some time to discuss the ending so that we both have a sense of closure.
How and where do you see people?
I offer face-to-face sessions from my counselling studio in Buckden, St Neots. I also offer online and telephone support nationally. In suitable weather I can offer walk n’ talk therapy which may be preferable for those who prefer a less formal setting and feel more relaxed in nature.
What are your fees?
From 1st January 2026 my fee for a 50-60 minute session is £55. I offer a concessionary rate of £40 for students and trainee counsellors. For details of my low cost-counselling offer through the Citizen Hub, please see the previous page.
What have clients said about your work?
“After not knowing what the world of therapy looked like, meeting Sarah was a genuine revelation for me. She made me feel so at ease and safe to speak with comfort in a safe space. Would recommend to anyone seeking support to reach out to Sarah.” (Male, 30)
“I felt an instant rapport and that Sarah understood what I was going through. This enabled me to share things and she listened and helped me through a very difficult time”. (Female, 57)
If you would like to find out more, please get in touch by phone or email. I offer a free, 15 minute introductory chat on the telephone to discuss your needs and how I can help.
